Regan Lauscher, 21, of Red Deer established herself as one of Canada's premier female lugers when she joined the national junior team in 1998. She promptly won the Alberta Cup championships, national junior championships and won a silver medal at the Canadian senior championships. She continued to compile impressive results nationally and internationally the following season, qualifying for the Olympic during a meet in Altenberg, Germany in late January.
Lauscher is the lone female member of the national luge team. She is also the first Canadian luge Olympian since Kathy Salmon in Albertville in 1992.
