Kim St-Pierre, 23, picked an opportune time to jump into the spotlight. The goaltender from Chateauguay, Que., was dominant during the 2001 world championships (her third), leading Canada to gold with a superb performance in the gold medal game - a 3-2 win over the United States in which she stopped 33 shots. For her effort, she was named the top goaltender of the tournament. In eight world championship games, she has allowed just six goals - a 0.79 goals-against average.
The McGill University student is also a member of the Quebec provincial softball team.
