Cheryl Pounder, 26, has made her national debut in 1994, earning a goal medal in the world championships. It took a while for Pounder to don the Maple Leaf again. She was cut from the 1997 world championship team and failed to make the 1998 Olympic squad as well.
Since then, Pounder, whose grandfather Phil Wimmer was the general manager of the Montreal Junior Canadiens in the late 1960s, has won gold in the last three world championships. A defenceman from Mississauga, Ont., Piper plays with the Beatrice Aeros of the NWHL.
