Charline Labonte, 19, enters the Olympics as one of two Canadian players not to play in a world championship. Cherie Piper is the other. She made her debut with the Canadian team during a tour in January of 2001. The goalie from Boisbriand, Que., made headlines when she began the 2001 season with the Acadie-Bathurst Titans of the Quebec Major-Junior Hockey League. She was only the second female to play in a men's major-junior hockey league in Canada.
Labonte later also played with the Junior A St-Jérôme Panthères before making her debut in the NWHL with the Laval Mistral.
