Athlete Profile

Curtis Joseph
Born: Keswick, Ont.
DOB: Apr. 29, 1967 (34). Height: 5-11, Weight: 190. Catches: Left. NHL team: Toronto Maple Leafs.
International history: Was Canada's alternate goalie at the 1998 Olympics. Canada's No. 1 goalie in the 1996 World Cup, going 5-2 on the silver-medal winning team. Won a silver medal in 1996 world championships, posting a sparkling 1.94 GAA in eight games.
What he brings: The most acrobatic of Canada's goaltenders, Joseph has the capacity to raise the level of his game when the team in front of him struggles. A workhorse and popular with his teammates, Joseph is a scrambly, reflex-type of netminder who is good under the pressure of a one-game, winner-take-all showdown.
Career highlights: Selected to play in three NHL all-star games (1994, 1999, 2001), Joseph was an undrafted goaltender who signed with St. Louis in 1989 as a free agent and has had most of his playoff success in the first rounds, leading the Blues and subsequently the Oilers to major first-round upsets.
