Veronica Bauer, 21, of Toronto, became the first Canadian woman to win a freestyle world title when she took the gold at the 2001 world championships in Blackcomb, B.C. Previous to that, her best finish had been a silver at an event in Australia in 2000.

Prior to trying her hand at aerial tricks on skis, Bauer was a competitive trampoline jumper. She competed in the 1994 world championships, and won the Ontario provincial championship that same year.
