Sara Renner, 25, of Canmore, Alta., hopes to have a better time in Salt Lake City than she did at the Nagano Games in 1998, where she was a part of the Canadian relay team that finished dead last. She also finished 54th in the 30-kilometre skate and 64th in the 10-kilometre skate.
Renner, a five-year national team veteran, thinks familiarity will be bliss at the 2002 Olympics. Like many of her teammates, she enjoyed a career-best performance at a World Cup event last year at Soldier Hollow, the venue for the Olympic competition. There, she was a part of the relay team that won a silver medal. She also finished 16th in the same-day pursuit.
In December, she was a part of a historic World Cup competition in Asiago, Italy that saw three Canadians finish in the top 10 of an event. Renner finished a career-best ninth in the 1.5-kilometre sprint.
Renner will compete in four events in Salt Lake City: the five-kilometre pursuit; 10-kilometre classical; 4x5-kilometre relay and the sprint.
