Paula McKenzie, 31 of Brooks, Alta., thought her competitive career was over when she retired from track and field in February of 1999. Shortly there after, she bumped into a member of the national bobsleigh team during a weight training session and decided to try the sport.
Now she's ready for her Olympic debut.
After only two seasons, McKenzie has achieved some impressive results, including a national-record-setting performance en route to winning the 2001 Canadian Bobsleigh Championships. Prior to that, she finished seventh at the 2001 world championships in Calgary.
In January, McKenzie won a push competition at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, booking her trip to Salt Lake as the second half of Christina Smith's sled.
