Anne-Marie Lefrançois, the national Super-G champion, enjoyed a breakthrough downhill season during the 2001-2002 season. After beginning the World Cup campaign ranked 44th, the skier from Charlesbourg, Que., rose to a 12th-place finish in St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Lefrançois, 24, has battled through a rash of injuries during her six years with the national team, including a broken ankle in 1997, a herniated disk that wiped out her entire 97-98 season, and a broken hand in 1999.
But her results keep coming. At the national championships in 2000, Lefrançois was the overall Nor Am and Super-G winner. She also finished second in the downhill at the national championships in 1999 and 2001.
