What a lesson to be learnt from this! India trained LTTE in the 70s and then sent a Peace Keeping Force to Sri Lanka only to find that LTTE turned against them. First they assassinated Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and then the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) came home with 1500 dead Indian Soldier bodies.
The Tamil Diasporas in USA UK and Canada collected millions of dollars for LTTE to buy arms and ammunition to fight against the Sri Lanka government to find that few months ago LTTE used these arms against their own Tamil brothers and sisters to hold them as a Human Shield.
Those who live by the sword will die by the sword.
Certainly the Sri Lankan government has shown the world “How to do it”
World governments now must take notice of Sri Lankan government strategies and know how to eradicate Terrorism. A job well done for the betterment and for a peaceful world.

Granted that that is really true, how many others also have blood on their hands?
  3. J S from Canada writes: I'd like to know what the Sri Lankan government is hiding since they won't allow the UN or any independent agency inside the war zone.
  4. Sam Sam from Toronto, Canada writes: It has been reported that it might take as much as 2 years to resettle the refugees who are in the camps due to the following reasons: Demining the areas where LTTE was fighting, Weeding out the LTTE terrorists who are currently with the refugees, Reconstruction of houses, roads, schools, hospitals and offices prior to releasing them. (LTTE was never interested in developing any infrastructure). I believe the SL Government is following the US footsteps just as the Al-Qaida terrorists were held with out a trial for years at Guantánamo Bay. SL Government has also indicated that the Government fought against the LTTE with out the help of the West and certainly they can look after the welfare of the refugees by themselves. A lesson to be learnt eh!

what exactly is that big fat lion holding in Sri Lanka's national flag? roses???

My personal opinion is that the government there is protecting themselves from the know sleeper cells of LTTE still in Sri Lanka. One can only hope they are NOT trying to hide anything but trying to get this HUGE tragedy under control.
This war has twisted and turned and gone back and forth for so long now that many the world over as well as Sri Lankans will have to really try hard to believe a Peaceful solution will be found.
Not just for today but for a long term.

A Tamil got into a high position of government before and the LTTE psycho, VP personally assassinated him. Now maybe there is a chance that Tamils can get democratic reps into government.

This is a very very sad history in a Beautiful country that needs to look to the future..
bury past hatreds and build a place where their children can stay and flourish.

YES without the help of the West but with the help of communist countries like CHINA and RUSSIA. After all, they are the only countries to call Rajapiccha and congratulate.
  8. Norbert Kraft from Toronto, Canada writes: The real work now commences and the SL govt. needs to be skillfully monitored and prodded. I agree on the need to do things slowly and carefully because the LTTE has deep tentacles that will be hard to pull out if not done carefully. This process needs to be in tandem with the stabilisation of both the northeast and the Tamil IDPs.
The region HAS been badly mismanaged by the LTTE and never forget that in the entire time the Govt. of SL was supplying medical care and education in the LTTE controlled areas with real money.
If the govt. can resettle and rehabilitate the area as well as starting the federalist program then the Tamils there will have a choice like they never had before.
Full bellies, good shelter, work, infrastrucure and safety go a lot farther than oppression and the tendencey to create guerillas. I think the govt. and the Singhalese people know that.
There is much resentment of the West in SL and it is a global trend that should be taken seriously. The West had never made any concrete suggestion as to how make the LTTE accountable and at the same time conducted strikes in Afghanistan that killed scores of civilians in the name of 'combatting terrorism', Yet when Sri Lanka chose to fight terrorism on it's own land (instead of outsourcing conflict), doing what Pakistan is just starting to do with a LOT of US money, it gets criticised and accused of many things; all as yet unproven. While it is likely that human rights abuses have occurred it should also be acknowledged that they have taken out a major terrorist org with global connections. Or maybe that's the point...maybe someone is losing a LOT of $$$ as a result of the Sri lankan govt. taking the country back. Like a lot of Western business interests. It's like Chomsky said....'follow the money'.
  9. Sl Cha from Surrey, Canada writes: This guy Doug Saunders writes: ..Unlike most urban Tamils, who stayed home Wednesday out of dismay at the huge loss of Tamil lives or fear of the government,...

Man, where were you when Tamil households put up National flags everywhere in Wellawatta, where many Tamils live in Colombo...?

Get out of your air-conditioned room, and get out of your air-conditioned car, and walk the streets of Wellawatta, talk to ordinary Tamils, then you'd know, how the Tamil in Sri Lanka heaved a sigh of relief...

There is no one to terrorize them, man, no one to take their schoolchildren at gun point to fight this coward's war...

This Prabakaran did NOT fight, but ran away..
