The United States has formally requested the extradition of a Canadian accused of supplying weapons to al-Qaeda, but the process could take years, officials said yesterday.
U.S. authorities say Abdullah Khadr, 24, also conspired to kill Americans abroad. He has been in custody since his arrest in Toronto in December, two weeks after returning to Canada from Pakistan.
The Canadian Justice Department now has 30 days to respond to the U.S. request and if it says yes, a court hearing will be held to consider the extradition. Reuters
