Athens Canadian wrestlers Daniel Igali and Gia Sissaouri were eliminated from medal contention after losing their quarter-final matches Sunday.
Igali, a gold medallist at the Sydney Olympics four years ago, lost his 74-kilogram match against Cuba's Ivan Fundora 3-1, while Sissaouri lost his 60-kilogram battle with Vasyl Fedoryshyn of Ukraine 6-0.
Both Igali and Sissaouri won their elimination pools earlier in the Games with 2-0 records.
Igali, a freestyle wrestler from Surrey, B.C., has been slowed by injuries since winning gold in the 69-kilogram class in Sydney. A serious back injury in 2001 and a herniated disc in his neck that required surgery in 2003 threatened to end his career.
The 30-year-old Igali is a native of Nigeria who has called Canada home since the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria.
Sissaouri, a native of Montreal, will compete in the consolation round later Sunday, while the outcome of other matches determines if Igali wrestles again at these Games.
