JOHN ANTHONY BOARD

Born, October 22, 1934, John Anthony Board passed away December 2, 2018. John was a pillar in the Canadian Film Industry who collaborated as an Assistant Director, Producer and Mentor with the best and brightest film makers in Canada. His unique perspective, incisive intellect and boundless energy helped shape not only the projects he worked on, but how they were made.

John is survived by his brothers, Stefan and Henry; his sons, Jason and Simon; and grandchildren, Rachel, Joanna, Alex, Sebastian and Sascha.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 9 at 10 a.m. at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mount Pleasant Road (east gate entrance). For online condolences, please visit http://www.etouch.ca.

AILEEN GIFFEN "Mike"

1937-2 018

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mike Giffen on Sunday December 2, 2018. Mike passed away peacefully at her home at the age of 81, surrounded by her family, her best friend for over 70 years, Joan Knowles and her beloved dog, Ossie.

Mike was predeaceased by her parents, Doris and Harry McEwan; her sister, Barbara; and her nephew, Cameron Fraser.

Proud and loving mother to Heather (Lorna), James (Maria) and Julia Atthill (Paul). Nana "Goose" to Sam and Emmy Giffen and Paige and Ainsley Atthill. Cherished aunt to Laurie, Kim and Tracey.

Mike grew up in Leaside and was an avid and accomplished figure skater. She loved her summers on Georgian Bay. Mike graduated in physiotherapy from the University of Toronto where she was a varsity cheerleader for 3 years.

Mike moved with her then husband, Peter Giffen to Kitchener in 1965 where she raised her family and spent the next 50 years.

Wanting to be closer to her kids, Mike moved back to her home town of Toronto in 2015. She retained her fierce independence living on her own until her death.

During her life, Mike volunteered for many organizations including: federal, provincial and municipal elections, Waterloo Seniors' Recreation Centre, I.O.D.E. and the K-W Art Gallery.

Mike enjoyed being a member of the KW and Leaside Probus clubs, DuPont Dollies from T.C.S.C.C.

and Westmount G &CC.

Mike's children are thankful for the wonderful care from Dr. Debbie Selby at Sunnybrook Hospital allowing our mom to die at home with the dignity she so wanted.

The family will receive friends at the Toronto Cricket Club, 141 Wilson Ave., Toronto on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 2 - 4 p.m.

If desired and as an expression of sympathy, donations to the Toronto Humane Society would be appreciated by her family.

RALPH HALBERT

Peacefully, on Tuesday, December 4, 2018, at the age of eighty eight, with his loving wife Roz of sixty five years by his side.

Beloved father of Michael and Batsheva, Daniel and Gail, and Perri and Elliot Kirshenblatt.

Devoted brother and brother-inlaw of Gerry and Tootsie, and the late Rhoda and Milton Brown.

Adoring "Ralphy"to Adam, Naftali and Brielle, Shalom, Leah and Dovid, Adina, Yoel, Jenna, Lauren, Cole, Shanna, Maddie, Eden, Jason, and greatgrandfather to Calla and Aleph.

Ralph leaves an everlasting legacy as an exemplary family man and philanthropist, dedicated to making an impact in the Jewish community through connecting Canada and Israel. He was an unwavering advocate of higher education and the arts through countless organizations including the University of Toronto, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and UJA.

Heartfelt thanks to our dear Jessie and our special caregivers. We will forever hold Ralph close to our hearts. At Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue West (three lights west of Dufferin) for service on Friday, December 7, 2018, at 10:00 a.m.

Interment Beth Tzedec Memorial Park. Shiva at One St. Thomas Street, Toronto. Memorial donations may be made to the Halbert Centre for Canadian Studies c/o Hebrew University of Jerusalem, 416-485-8000.
