Hans Juergen Falkenberg ''Chief'
1927 Berlin - 2013, Toronto
It is with immeasurable sadness that we announce the passing of Hans J. Falkenberg on February 25, 2013 after a very fast and furious battle with cancer.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife Christa; daughter Sonja (Peter and children); son Mark (Stacy) and grandchildren Raelle, Colton and Reese; his brother Dieter (Hilde) and family; brother Peter (Ging) and family; nephew Hans (Jackie) and family. He is predeceased by his dear son, Peter (1984).
Hans emigrated to Canada in 1952 from Germany. That same year he met and married Christa who became his pillar of strength and support for the next 60 years. Together they worked very hard, against great odds, to build a successful life for their family. In 1957, they bought their first house in Willowdale which remains the family home and solid base to this day and exemplifies their rock-steady temperaments.
Hans' entire career was spent in the automobile business. He rose from salesman to dealer principal over time with great determination and tenacity. Hans owned and operated Volkswagen Porsche Audi and AMC dealerships for the first part of his career and owned Willowdale Nissan Ltd. and Infiniti of Willowdale for the last thirty years. He had the great joy of running the business with his son Mark for the last twenty-five years. Hans was still at the business every day until four weeks prior to his death.
Hans' friends, fellow dealers and his employees knew him as a man of great integrity, outstanding business acumen, generosity and loyalty and he will be greatly missed.
Hans' passions were many and varied. He was a model train aficionado; he was an avid gardener who delighted in the beauty of nature; a devoted Porsche fan; and a great lover of boating. He was also a true gourmand and lover of all things military.
His innate talent for design and architecture was evidenced by his creation of a magnificent summer home and gardens at his long held and beloved lake property in northern Ontario. This masterpiece is a testament to his incredible vision and exquisite taste.
In his very quiet way, and with his rarely displayed individual sense of humour, he touched the hearts of many. The world has lost a particularly fine and unique man.
A memorial to celebrate Hans' life will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Regency Room, at The Granite Club, 2350 Bayview Avenue, Toronto.
In lieu of flowers, Hans would have appreciated a donation to the World Wildlife Fund. Donations in Hans' name can be made online at www.wwf.ca. Please use firstname.lastname@example.org as Hans' email address.
He left us quietly, His thoughts unknown, But left us a memory We are very proud to own; So we hope he is at peace, In a garden of rest; For when on this earth, He was one of the best.
We will always love you ''Chief''.
