Robert (Bob) Hughes
''An Officer and a Gentleman'' has left us. Robert Owen Hughes, 86 of Victoria, British Columbia passed away on Tuesday, February 19th. Bob was born on September 5, 1926 in Trafalgar Township, Oakville, Ontario.
Bob was predeceased by his 1st wife Sally. He is survived by his wife Herma, daughter Joan (Joe) Wihnan, son Rob Hughes and step-son Peter Smith, as well as many grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Snow of Oakville, Ontario and many nieces & nephews.
Bob joined the Canadian Army in 1945 and the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1947. He served for 23 years as a Photographer, Flying Instructor, Jet Pilot (with NATO for 4 four years in Baden-Baden, Germany), Personnel Administrator and then Search & Rescue Helicopter Pilot based in Comox, BC. After retiring from the Air Force, Bob was a Real Estate Salesman and Sales Manager in Victoria for 24 years.
Bob was a special person who was very much loved. He was creative, kind, giving and had many talents. He touched many people's lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His memories of life in Oakville can be read at www.oakville-memories.info.
A gathering to celebrate Bob's life will be held at a later date.
