Peacefully in his sleep in the early hours of Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at Extendicare Residence, Cobourg, Ontario. Ben is survived by his wife, Jane, his sister Kay Munroe, his son John (Sharon), his daughters Ann Power (Brendan), Barbara Forrester (Darryl) and Kathleen Edwards (Michael), his grandchildren Christopher, Andrew, John, Heather and Carolyn, his nephew Ted McCollum (Sharon), nieces Patti Ito (Bill) and Rebecca Murphy. Ben spent his professional life as a senior partner at Pricewaterhouse in Montreal and Toronto. He was the longstanding owner of Breakers on the Lake in Cobourg. Ben enjoyed an active retirement, moving to Hope Township where he enjoyed his time at Mastwoods cultivating apple trees and gardens, hosting annual family barbeques, and keping a watchful eye upon the Breakers. Ben was a long time member of the National Club in Toronto, was an active member St. Mark's Church, in Port Hope, and was instrumental in establishing a charitable foundation, St. Mark's Heritage Foundation. Ben enjoyed recreational pursuits such as badminton, golf, Nordic skiing, bridge, and travel. He was devoted to his wife, to his family and friends. If desired, In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Mark's Heritage Foundation or charity of choice. Visitation will be between 7-9 pm on Monday February 25th, 2013, Ross Funeral Chapel, 135 Walton Street, Port Hope. Service will be at 1 pm. on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, St. Mark's Anglican Church, 51 Kings Street, Port Hope. Reception to follow at Dalewood Golf Club.
