JOHN M. JOHNSON, M.D. (U of T, 1956), D.Psych (U of T, 1961), FRCP(C) It is with a heavy heart that the family of John Michael Johnson announces his passing on February 12, 2013 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton. John was the much loved husband of Barbara (Hawken), the devoted father of Kathy (Brad Badeau), Lisa (Peter Young), Michael (Leanne), Mark (Susan Marshall) and Peter (Catherine). John was the cherished grandfather of Michael, Matthew and Andrew Badeau; Alex, Aaron, Patrick, Daniel, Andrew, Claire, Christopher and Ian Johnson. Family was tremendously important to John, and his greatest joy. A man of science and a lover of the arts, John was able to effortlessly connect with people of all ages and from all walks of life. John was born in Hamilton on June 25, 1931 to William and Winnifred (Alcoe). Predeceased by his much loved uncle, Geoffrey Johnson, brother Bernard (Margaret) and sister Joan (James Hodgson, whom John considered to be a life-long mentor). Brother-in-law to Kathy (George Dembroski) and Margaret (the late William Cullen Hawken), John will be fondly remembered by the extended Johnson, Hawken and Dembroski families, and his many friends. A gentleman, a friend, a colleague and a care-giver, John practiced psychiatry in Hamilton for over 40 years, and was a staff member at St. Joseph's Healthcare . He was a long standing member of McMaster University Medical School Clinical Faculty, and the Hamilton Medical-Legal Society (President 1980-81). Until this past December, John was still actively involved in his profession, serving as a member of the Ontario Ministry of Health's Consent and Capacity Board. John's motto was that we should be kind to each other, share a hug with a child, wear bright colours, and make time for good music. Visitation will be held at P.X. DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 796 Upper Gage Ave., on Sunday, February 17th from 7-9pm and Monday, February 18th from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Prayers will be said on Monday at 8pm. A Funeral Mass to celebrate John's life will be held on Tuesday, February 19th at 9:30am at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 58 Sydenham Street, Dundas. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
