Ruth Hilda (Becky) Reid
On Monday, January 28, at Belmont House, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's. Devoted wife of Grainger (deceased 2002), loving mother to Alison (Bob Ritz), Andrew (Elizabeth), and Fiona (McCowan Thomas). Dearest grandmother to Vanessa, Ainslie, Alec, Julia, Margaret, Jennifer, Christopher, and Rebecca. Born in Tokyo to British missionary parents. Trained at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, London and served in WWII as a QARANC operating theatre nurse. Landed in Bayeux, France just after D-Day. Followed the Allied Forces to Germany helping the sick and injured as well as the survivors of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp. Married in Calcutta, India, Becky was a loyal army wife from Germany, Africa, and Britain to Washington DC. Immigrated to Canada in 1964 and settled in Toronto. She touched the lives of so many with her volunteer work, extraordinary grace, sense of fun and kindness. When words failed, she sang until the end. Deep gratitude to her caregiver and guardian angel Sheila Boatswain, also Angela Smart, Aziza Falay, Michelle Warner and all who loved and cared for her at Belmont House. Memorial Service at St Martin in the Fields, 151 Glenlake Avenue at Keele, Toronto on Monday March 18 at 2:00 p.m. Donations to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada gratefully accepted.
