RATZ, Johanne Elizabeth
Peacefully at Toronto General Hospital on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at the age of 82. Born in Tavistock, Ontario, Johanne moved to Toronto to study philosophy at the U. of T. In 1959 she joined the personnel department of the Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, eventually rising to the position of Hospital Administrator. Following her 30-year tenure at PMH she committed herself enthusiastically to volunteering with various organizations. As a CESO volunteer she spent time in Dominica and Thailand, and she also served on the Boards of a number of organizations in Toronto. She and her partner Hardi Cinader, shared a life-long love of Canadian First Nations art and actively promoted its appreciation. She is greatly missed by her sister Gretchen Walker, her nephew and nieces Jim Walker, Peggy Hankey and Nancy Staib, and by her many friends, in particular by Hardi's daughter, Agatha Cinader and Bernhard Wu and family. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES CHAPEL LIMITED, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Saturday, February 9 at 1:00 p.m. For many years, Johanne was a dedicated volunteer for the Kappa Kappa Gamma scholarship fund for Canadian women working on their PhDs. If desired, donations to this registered charity would be appreciated: KKG Foundation of Canada, P. O. Box 1273, 2384 Yonge Street, Toronto M4P 3E5. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
