Captain (retired) Gordon Ernest Irving, 92, of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, died peacefully in a Sarasota hospice on January 24, 2013. Gord's survivors include Margaret his beloved wife and very best friend of 66 years, his children, Johnnie-Mike (Georgia Sievwright) of Toronto, Canada, Ernie (Roberta) of Orlando, FL, and Merridy (Joe) Scott of Kenilworth, IL; grandchildren, Campbell Irving, Tanner, Conner, Morgan and Carley Scott. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Myrtle and brother Clarence. Gord was extremely proud to have served as a Captain in the Canadian Army, South Alberta Regiment from 1941 - 1946. He later graduated from the Montana School of Mines with an Engineering Degree and then had a very successful career working for Allis Chalmers from 1949 until his retirement in 1982. In his retirement years Gord thoroughly enjoyed Florida's golf, fishing, lanai gardening, brisk walking and hosting both his family and friends in his lovely homes in sunny Sarasota. A private family celebration of Gord's life will be held at a later date. Gord was a devoted husband, father, friend and grandfather (Gramps) that will be dearly missed by all that knew him and loved him. We will miss you Gord !
