Francis (Frank) Joseph ZAKEM
Francis (Frank) Joseph Zakem of Charlottetown, in his 82nd year, died peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of 50 years to Janet (nee Kousaie) Zakem. Devoted and proud father of Steven (Anne), Kenneth (Mary), Bruce and Albert (Charlene). Loving Gido (Grandfather) of Faris, Sami, Alex, Kate and Matthew Zakem. Frank will be greatly missed by his surviving siblings Yvonne Haddad, Abe (Laura), Margaret Haddad (Michael) and Jean Rashed (Labeeb) and sister-in-law Edith Zakem as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Predeceased by his parents Albert and Annie Zakem and brother Joe Zakem.
Frank devoted his life to his family and the wider community. He was an educator, administrator, volunteer, businessman, author, municipal politician and community activist. For his lifetime of community service he gratefully received many honours and awards including the Order of P.E.I. (2009) and Doctor of Laws (U.P.E.I.) (2012).
Special thanks to the many health care professionals at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown and the QEII (Halifax Infirmary) as well as many homecare providers for their skillful and compassionate care, particularly over the past several months.
Resting at Belvedere Funeral Home until Monday morning, then to the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer for funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Visitation Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment later in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society (Holy Redeemer Church).
