Muriel D. Robertson (Ruddock)
At the grand age of 101, Muriel Robertson passed away on January 15, 2013 in Burlington, Ontario. She is predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Herbert, and her only son, Donald. She is remembered fondly by her two grandchildren, Rob and Haidee (Danny), and one great grandchild, Ben.
Born a farm girl in Huntington, Quebec on January 3, 1912, Muriel was a fun-loving sister to Carmen (Lloyd) Thomas, and her late brothers Mac (Lillian) and Stan (Ella). A life-long athlete, with a strong competitive spirit, Muriel was ahead of her time, playing women's ice hockey while attending the Macdonald College for teachers, graduating in 1930. After meeting her future husband in Kilmar, Quebec and marrying in 1937, the pair settled in Burlington where Muriel became well known in the community for her curling, golfing and card playing abilities. Later in life she took up tennis and lawn bowling.
Still golfing into her 90s, Muriel was fortunate enough to record 2 holes- in-one during her life time. After retiring in the early 1970s, Muriel and Herb joined the snowbirds in their annual winter migration to the warmer climate of Florida where you could often hear their rallying cry ''It's Happy Hour.''
A memorial service celebrating the life of Muriel will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 461 Elizabeth St. Burlington 905-333-3013 on Friday January18, 2013 at 1:00 pm. www.smithsfh.com
