DONALD JOSEPH KELLY
October 9, 1938 – January 9, 2013
Died peacefully at The Village of Tansley Woods in Burlington. Don is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Estelle (nee Dalton). He was a devoted and loving father to four children, Kevin (Donna), Shannon Brodie (Colin), Colin (Silvana Ciddio), and Janice Bacher (nee Dalton) (Craig). Grandchildren arrived as great gifts for Don who had been an only child; Nicholas, Connor, Liam, Keira, Keegan, Morgan, and Evan. Don earned a BSC at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish N.S. in 1958, and his engineering degree from Nova Scotia Technical College (now part of Dalhousie University) where he received the outstanding student award for scholarship, leadership, and personality in his senior year. He began his career in Quebec, moving to Burlington in 1965 to start a 34 year career at Burlington Hydro, eventually becoming general manager where he was recognized for his outstanding skills as an administrator and negotiator. He retired in June 1999. During his career, he was active in the Ontario Municipal Electrical Association. Special thanks to Dr. Amanda Jerome, Acclaim Health, Mary (Alzheimer Society) and the staff at the Village of Tansley Woods for their compassionate care. Visitation at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Friday from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, 196 Kenwood Ave., on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. Reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
