Betty-Jane (BJ) Hasselback
In her 82nd year, peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Betty-Jane was a truly great human being. Loving and kind, she always looked after the needs of everyone else before herself. She believed that all people were created equal and everyone deserved to be treated with respect and dignity. She was generous with life, sharing her beautiful smile and laughter wherever she went. Betty-Jane, known to her many friends as BJ, was that one person you always remember and are always happy to see again. She knew how to size up even the most difficult situations and do the right thing. She was a lightning rod for the good in people and you always felt better for spending time with her. She had a quiet intelligence and quick wit and loved a good joke. She also knew how to throw really great parties, bringing all sorts of people together. She never lingered on regrets or sadness because life was too short. She was a founder of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and over the years with her many good, well- met friends, helped to raise millions of dollars to advance research and treatment. Betty-Jane was a clear and profound force in the life of her family and friends. She will be remembered through tears, but also with great joy by her loving husband, Dr. Richard Hasselback, her children Angela, Martin, Michael and Alexandra, sons-in-law Derek and Vin, grandchildren Danielle, Alexandra, Mary Ann, Angela, Jessica, Lillian, Nancy, great- grandchildren Marshall and Halley, brother Rod, and Hasselback relatives across Canada. Betty-Jane knew that the most important thing in life is love and we will remember her in our hearts always. We will celebrate her love and her life with the party she wanted in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Colorectal Cancer Association of Canada or the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.
