ALLAN DONALDSON BRASH March 19, 1933 - December 31, 2012 Allan died surrounded by his family after a long battle with prostate cancer. He leaves his loving wife Donna of 53 years, his children; David (Vivian), Katherine (Greg) and Jennifer. Beloved Papa to Grandchildren Hannah, Lucas, Melissa, Emma and Hailey. He leaves behind his sister Georgina and husband Jack. ''Big Al'' was a loving, caring husband and father and a kind and compassionate friend to many.
Allan grew up in Etobicoke and maintained lifelong friendships with his classmates from Etobicoke High School, enjoying monthly poker nights together for many years.
Allan obtained a BSc. Agri., O.A. C. University of Guelph 1956, MBA, University of Western Ontario 1963 and the British Institute of Brewing Diploma UK 1962. He enjoyed a successful brewing career spanning three decades. After working at Carling O'Keefe and Labatt Breweries, Allan was instrumental in the creation of the very successful Sleeman Breweries. Allan was VP Operations, Master Brewer and Board Member at Sleeman from 1986 to his retirement in 1998. Brewing craft beer was his passion. In his retirement, Allan pursued his love of reading, gardening, painting and investing. He enjoyed lively political debates with his friends at Cedar Springs and Pelican Landing, Florida. Allan was a true innovator and he will be remembered for his quick intellect, wit and sense of humour.
Al's wishes for a private cremation has taken place and a memorial celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Cedar Springs. Thoughts and messages of sympathy for the family can be sent to email@example.com.
