WOOD, Iva Jane
On December 28, 2012, Iva Jane Wood (nee Delamater) passed away at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 51 years, John. She is survived by her four children: David (Donna) of Portland OR, Margaret (Barry) of Edmonton, Kenneth (Emma) of Cambridge U.K. and Philip (Tracey) of Calgary; twelve grandchildren: Jennifer, Michael, Kathryn, Courtney, Emma, Benjamin, Sydney, Lilla, Bobby, William, James and Charlotte; four great-grandchildren: Ada, Kelty, John and Eleanor; sister, Mary of Winnipeg; and many other relatives and friends. Iva, the daughter of Walter (a farmer) and Ethel (a teacher), spent her childhood in Oak River Manitoba. In 1944 Iva earned the distinction of being the first female Bachelor of Science graduate of Brandon University. A year later, John and Iva met in Ontario as John was completing his Bachelor of Divinity at U of T and Iva was attending the United Church Training School (the 'Angel Factory'). Together with John, Iva lived a fulfilling life as wife, mother, educator, mentor and friend.A Memorial Service will be held in 2013 at Southminster-Steinhauer United Church when schedules allow as many family members as possible to travel to Edmonton. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Mission and Service Fund of the United Church of Canada, the Good Samaritan Society, the Alzheimer Society of Alberta or the Brandon University Delamater-Wood 50th Anniversary Scholarship.
