JOHN A. DOTY
After a six-year struggle with lymphoma, John passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the age of 86. Loving husband of 60 years of Helen (Sheridan) , father of Robert and Stephen, grandfather of Eric and Lauren. Proud of his daughters-in-law, Carole and Lynn. Before retiring in 1992, John was a business owner and insurance broker. He was a gifted artist, life-long low-handicap golfer and an avid and accomplished curler. In 1978 he played on the Ontario Senior Mens' championship curling team. He believed in giving back to the sports that gave him so much, serving as committee chair and President of the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club (of which he was a proud member for 62 years), the Ontario Curling Association and the Governor General's Curling Club. He was Chairman of the host committee of the 1993 Ottawa Labatt Brier.
John loved life, his family and his many close friends. A celebration of his life will be held at the Ottawa Hunt & Golf Club in the spring. No flowers please. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society.
