Withers, Lorne Victor
(December 1916 - December 2012)
At the Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga, Ontario on December 19, 2012. Lorne Victor Withers died in his 96th year. Lorne was born on December 31, 1916 to Mr. & Mrs. Walter Parmentier Withers in the (then) C.P.R. Station at Beeton, Ontario. He was predeceased by brothers Eldon and Orley. He is survived by his wife the former Marion Louise Fachnie. He was very grateful for the love and devotion of his daughter, Elaine Carol Crossland, wife of the late Dr. Alfred M. Crossland of Barrie, Ontario. Lorne retired from Base Borden Construction and Electrical Engineering on December 30, 1980. He was in charge of all electrical facilities on the base. After 41 years he was awarded the Queen's Jubilee Medal by the Department of National Defence. In October 1951 he formed Local Union 1739 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He was President and Business Manager for 14 years. In October 2011 Lorne was awarded a citation and pin in honour of his loyal and faithful years of membership for sixty years in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. In accordance with Lorne's wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. Interment will be in the family plot at Beeton United Church Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the personal service workers from C. C.A. C. and the medical and nursing staff at the Trillium Health Centre, involved in Lorne's care.
