KAVAN, Vladimir (Vlad) O. C.
Peacefully at home, in the arms of his loving wife, on Sunday December 16 at age 95. Survived by his wife Rosemary ''Ruza', his stepson Adrian (Nurhan) and step grandson Michael and his two nephews, Vitek and Ondrej Kavan in the Czech Republic. Vlad was born and raised in Prague, graduated from Technical University of Prague in mechanical engineering. In 1948 he came to Canada where eventually he established a successful company which was sold in 1983. Through his work with the Rotary Club he was inspired to join CARE which became CARE Canada where he became president and Chairman and later co founder of CARE International. In 1995 he was awarded the Order of Canada for his devotion and service to CARE. He was an avid reader of history and a lover of the arts; in addition to being a balloonist, skier, competitive sailor, avid golfer and Olympian. He was member of The Order of Malta and The Order of St Lazarus. Vlad was a true gentleman, always thoughtful, caring, religious and had a wonderful sense of humour. Funeral Mass at St. Wenceslaus Church, 496 Gladstone Avenue, Toronto, December 20 at 11am.
