Raymond (Ray) John Simpson April 29, 1945-December 12, 2012
Much loved father of Heather and Ellen, passed away on Wednesday December 12th, suddenly, unexpectedly and immediately from a heart attack while preparing dinner in his home. Ray is predeceased by his beloved wife Ibbet, and survived by his brothers David of Waterdown and Alan of St. Catharine's and a large extended family. He will be greatly missed by an extensive group of family and friends. Originally from Burlington, Ray graduated from Waterloo Lutheran (Laurier) before settling in Toronto. He was a founding partner of Hemson Consulting Ltd., and had a very distinguished career as a consultant in regional planning and growth management. More recently Ray shared his love of knowledge with the next generation as the Planner-in-Residence at the University of Waterloo, as an adjunct professor at the Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto, and as a guest speaker in many courses and conferences. His friends and family will remember a man with a generous heart, who was genuinely interested in the lives of others, and who went out of his way to make others feel welcome in his home. Ray loved to travel was always planning his next trip. He was a man who held distinct opinions (about almost everything) which he was never afraid to share. Ray loved nothing more than a good debate, ideally accompanied by fine food and wine. His daughters are incredibly grateful for the incredible support of neighbours and family over the past few days, and for the incredible friends who have been so important to Ray after the devastating loss of his wife Ibbet less than two years ago. A reception for family and friends is planned for Sunday, January 6th, from 2pm - 5pm at the University Club of Toronto, 380 University Avenue. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift to Toronto Kiwanis Boys & Girls Clubs (http://believeinkids.ca/), a charity which Ray supported. 0
