RHODA PENDLETON BAXTER
1928 – 2012
One of Canada's outstanding musical artists passed away peacefully November 30, at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. Her beautiful, lyric soprano voice was heard for many years on radio, television and in concert halls throughout the nation and in the United States. Rhoda grew up on Deer Island, NB and received voice training at Mount Allison University, and at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. Beloved wife of Stuart Baxter of Ottawa, she is also survived by her daughter, Rachel Baxter and son-in-law Hazen Brien of Irishtown, NB, son Christopher Baxter, Ottawa, cousins, Marjorie Lee Mitchell of Deer Island, NB, and Manville Pepper of Kamloops, BC, sister-in-law Joan Pendleton and niece Lori Pendleton of Charlottetown, PEI, brother-in-law John Baxter of Brantford, ON, nephew Dr. Fred Baxter of Ancaster, ON, and niece, Anne Baxter Bernhardt of Paris, ON. To honour the memory of Rhoda, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family. A memorial service will be held December 18, 10:30 a.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 420 Sparks Street/429 Queen Street, Ottawa.
