LEONARD ANTHONY GRIFFITHS
(1920 – 2012)
Passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (Veterans L Wing) on Saturday, December 8, 2012 surrounded by family. Len was predeceased by his first wife, Teresa (née Guilfoyle), their son David, their daughter Wendy, and his brother, Norman. He is survived and lovingly remembered by his second wife, Marjorie, and his children Richard (Margaret), Michael (Dawne), Janet, Donald (Kathy), and Karen (Colin), and by his grandchildren Christopher, Laura, Mark, David, Emma, Erin, Emily, Galen, and Derek, as well as his great-grandson, Ben. Len was born and raised in Montreal and, after serving overseas in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps during the war, he returned to Montreal to work with the Phoenix of Hartford Insurance Group and Continental Insurance Companies. He was transferred to Toronto in 1969 and retired in 1982. He then worked at Chateau Insurance from 1983 through 1988. He was a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada and served for many years as a Director of Underwriters Laboratories of Canada. Len was a long-serving volunteer at North York General Hospital as well as an enthusiastic member of the Blessed Trinity choir. Len was a true gentleman who lived his life with honesty, integrity, grace, and good humour. A dedicated father and a man always at peace with the world and with himself, he met head-on the many challenges of a long life, and had the ability to instantly connect with the humanity in others. The family would like to express its thanks to the nursing and medical staff at Sunnybrook (L Wing) for the excellent care and attention Len received in his short time there, and to the caregivers who provided home care to Len over the last few years. Friends may call on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 from 7-9 at the R.S. Kane Funeral Home (6150 Yonge Street, at Goulding, south of Steeles). A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2012 in the Chapel at R. S. Kane Funeral Home, time to be announced. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Sunnybrook Foundation or The Salvation Army. Condolences www.rskane.ca. R.S. Kane
