PICHORA, Edward Alfred

Edward Alfred Pichora, beloved husband of Jean Ralston, and father of David (Deborah McMaster), Neil, and Ruth (Jean Lalonde), passed away peacefully on Friday December 7th, 2012 in his 90th year, in Burlington, Ontario. He is survived by his brother Lloyd (the late Margaret), and was predeceased by his brothers Joseph (the late Julia), Peter (Dorothy), and sister Florence Finley (Robert). He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren Jamie (Andrea Martin) and their daughter Olivia, Mark (Genevieve Simard), Kate (Sebastian Escagues), Andrew, Christopher and Larissa.
  Ed served as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force, and, after the war he graduated as a Chartered Accountant (1952) and joined Page- Hersey Tubes Limited, and subsequently Pete Marwick Mitchell and Company in Toronto. In 1955 he began a 20 year career at Butler Manufacturing Ltd. (Canada), where he was their first Chief Accountant and later rose from Treasurer and Controller to General Manager (Canada). In 1976 he formed his own accounting partnership in Hamilton, Ontario (Cipolla and Pichora) and practiced there until 1987. He subsequently practiced from home until his 89th birthday and thoroughly enjoyed the lasting relationships with his many clients.
  Ed was a member of East Plains United Church for more than 50 years. He served as a member of the Board of Directors, and appreciated the many friends and experiences he had throughout the years at East Plains. Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington was also a focus of Ed's attention, where he served on the Board of Directors of the Hospital Foundation. He also served the Burlington Chamber of Commerce, being elected President in 1975. The Chamber formally recognized his contribution with an award for Outstanding Leadership. Throughout Ed's life, he enjoyed competitive badminton, golf, bridge and travel. He was a strong leader in the community, in business and to his family. He was someone who did not hesitate to help and was a role model, mentor, friend and strength to many.
  The family would like to thank the wonderful care teams at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, Acclaim Health, Community Care Access Centre (Burlington), Comfort Keepers, and Park Avenue Manor for all of the care and support provided to Ed.The family will welcome visitors at SMITH'S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line, (one stoplight north of QEW), BURLINGTON on Tuesday December 11, 2012 from 6:00-9:00 pm and Wednesday December 12, 2012 from 11 a.m. until time of Celebration of his life Service which will be held in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Please consider donations in Ed's honour to East Plains United Church, Burlington, or Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital Foundation.
