Kristian Andrew Richards
April 21, 1969 - November 30, 2012
After his lifelong struggle with diabetes Andrew died suddenly of a stroke on November 30, 2012. Loved greatly and mourned by many, especially his dear wife Julia Fehervari, parents Dr. Richard L Richards and Helene Anne Lusk, and siblings Jonathan (Megan), Peter, and Rachel. Andrew experienced many serious diabetes-related complications including the amputation of his legs but always rebounded with great passion for life. Throughout his life, several themes were dominant - his love of animals, particularly his beloved pets; his open, humorous and forgiving nature; and his ease with people of diverse backgrounds. Andrew was strongly influenced by his early years visiting the Ottawa Valley where he was free to explore the wilds surrounding his relatives' properties. Andrew enjoyed great company and community. He became a fixture and active board member for several years at the Senator David Croll building in the heart of the Annex. This portion of his life was blessed with meeting his life partner Julia, who loved and cared for him. His time working with the community, and chatting and joking with neighbours and friends in the neighbourhood was a source of great enjoyment for him. He was artistic and an avid follower of technology who spent hours helping friends maintain and repair computers, bikes and cars, both as a favour and for sheer enjoyment. The family wishes to thank the Hospital for Sick Children for its key role in Andrew's initial diagnosis and early disease management as well as the dialysis team at TGH. If desired, the family welcomes donations in Andrew's name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Hospital for Sick Children.
