Died November 26, 2012. Reluctantly but at peace, Peter leaves behind all he loved including the practice of medicine; his wife Liz; his children Andy, Wendy, and Lee; four granddaughters, Maggie , Erica, Mallory, and Cassie; his garden and birds; his boat Argentanno; and Maggie's dog Bearzy Girl.
Born in West Toronto to Jean and Alfred Munt, Peter worked for CP railway to pay his way through medical school. Following two years as a family physician, he returned to the University of Toronto's Internal Medicine Program, ultimately specializing in Respirology. He deeply loved the practice of Medicine-both the pure sciences, and the human side of caring for sick people. He truly cared about the welfare and outcomes of all patients.
After five years of specialty training and working at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Peter chose to join Queen's University in the Department of Medicine, Division of Respirology, eventually becoming Head of the Department of Medicine, and finally Chief of Staff at Kingston General Hospital.
Peter was loved by his sister Anne Wheatley and her family, brother-in-law John Clough and his family; as well as by his dear friends and colleagues, many he held closely from high school years, medical school, and a lifetime thereafter.
His wife, children, and granddaughters will miss his outrageous sense of humour, dry wit, and enthusiasm for living a large life. He taught us all to care for others, and to work diligently at one's chosen passion for life.
In keeping with his wishes for things unceremonial, a private service will take place.
For those wishing to remember Peter, and his work, donations to either of the following would be appreciated by the family.
