LOCKING, Dorothy (Dodie) Eleanor (nee Reed)

Born in Fredericton NB to Dr. Leonard and Mrs. Ella (nee Thurrott) Reed. Died peacefully at Stillwater Retirement Community in Nepean, ON, after a life well lived. Dodie loved and was loved by her daughter Heather Locking-Cusolito and son-in-law John Cusolito of London, ON. As well she leaves to mourn her loss, a wide circle of family and friends - David and Paddy Dyer and family of Russell, ON, Gary and Nancy Renaud and family of Ottawa, ON, Cathy Buck and Don Birrell and family of Ottawa, ON, her sister and brother-in-law Judith and Bruno Tagliaferrri and family of Warwickshire, England, her niece Erica and husband James Davis and family of Winston-Salem, NC, her nephew Richard Swenson and his wife Robin and family of Tacoma, WA, her niece Aileen and husband Charles of Middleville, NY and her dear and loyal friends in several bridge clubs , her church and her former neighbourhood. She was predeceased by her parents, her ''big sister'' Katharine (Kap) Swenson and her brother-in-law Dr. Richard Swenson of Irvington, VA and by her former husband Gerald Locking of Ottawa. Dodie was born in Fredericton, NB, raised in Woodstock, NB, attended the University of New Brunswick graduating in 1942 in Honours English and French, taught at Netherwood School for Girls in Rothesay, NB (1942-44) before moving to Montreal to work first at Ferry Command and subsequently at the Aluminum Company of Canada . After her family was launched she worked in Admissions at Carleton University (1970-1987). Following retirement she enjoyed volunteering at the Nearly New Shop at Westboro United Church and the West Ottawa Achievers at Woodroffe United Church. Dodie loved family and friends, young people, laughter, bridge, cryptic crosswords, scrabble, good grammar, reading The Globe and Mail, classical music, her church, dinner parties and the occasional rum and coke. Visitation will be held at Woodroffe United Church, 207 Woodroffe Avenue, on Friday, November 23rd, 2012 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. immediately preceding a Service of Celebration from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. with reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Woodroffe United Church or a charity of your choice would be acknowledged with thanks by her family. Tributes or donations may be made at www.tubmanfuneralhomes.com.
