GORDON (GORD) W. HAYHURST
Born in Toronto, Ontario on December 5, 1954, Gordon passed away prematurely and unexpectedly after a brief period of failing health.
Beloved and dearest friend and spouse of Jacqueline (Jackie) Hushion. Adored son of Shirley Alice Hayhurst and William L. Hayhurst (2011). Gordon also leaves behind dear siblings - Laurie Cruess (Alan) and Alice Hayhurst, and Daniel Hayhurst (Michele)...and the remarkable and distinguished caboodle of nieces and nephews he so loved.
Gordon graduated from Upper Canada College and Queen's University. He worked at Ridout & Maybee LLP (Toronto) before heading to the UK to earn his law degree from the University of Warwick. After his return to Canada, he joined Lang Michener. At the time of his passing he was a Legal Advisor with the federal Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) where he dedicated more than twenty rewarding years to public service.
Gord will be fondly remembered and missed by his extended family, his colleagues at the IRB and his friends, at home and around the globe. They knew him to be exacting and complex and fun. His interests were wide-ranging. He loved the Bon Echo wilderness and the shores of Lake Mazinaw. He was a natural teacher with a wry and wonderful sense of humour; although he wasn't a talker, he was a conversationalist. He was a voracious reader - devouring books and information. As a true Scotsman, he was frugal and at the same time so very generous.
As Gord wished, there will be no visitation or service. Those wishing to honour Gord might consider a donation to the Toronto East General Hospital Building Fund, the Toronto Humane Society, the World Wildlife Federation or...to a charity of choice.
