With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father Lawrence (Larry), who passed away surrounded by his daughters on Sunday, October 28th under a full moon at St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital after a sudden battle with cancer.
This brilliant man is lovingly celebrated by his children Shaun Smith, Rebecca (Wade) McKinley and Kate Pratt, their mother 'Tricia, grandchildren Jacob and Doneca McKinley, his Roblin Ontario-based family as well as many lifelong friends and colleagues both at the University of Alberta and internationally. He was predeceased by his mother Jean Cameron Cooper (nee Paul) and his father Roy Baruch Pratt. Larry graduated from Carleton University, The University of Toronto, and the London School of Economics. He was a Professor of Political Science at the University of Alberta for 28 years. He was an academic, author, film writer, editor, music lover, traveller, but most of all, a family man, mentor, critical thinker, and friend.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service and reception will take place on Friday, November 30th, 2012 at Garneau United Church, 11148-84 Avenue, Edmonton, from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Please look in the Napanee Beaver newspaper next Friday for more about his life.
