Yum, Amy Man Yee (nee Chan)
Feb. 17 1949 - Oct. 18, 2012
In the early hours of Oct. 18, Amy quietly passed away at the Scarborough Hospital's palliative care unit. Mourned by husband Victor, sons William and Kenny, Amy also leaves three sisters (Grace, Man Chee, Man San) and a brother (Man Kit) and a wide extended family. Amy was born in Canton, China, and arrived in Toronto to study at Ryerson in 1968. In the Baldwin neighbourhood, among a fledgling immigrant community, she met her husband, Yiu Sun and by 1974, the couple had two children, a house in Scarborough and a new occupation at Canada Post. Amy faced life's toughest challenges. For 30 years, she beat cancer, rose from strokes and emerged from multiple comas, but she always stayed strong. Yiu Sun, her devoted husband for 41 years, took Amy on many trips, striving to fulfill their desire to see the world. Her family is grateful that she is in peace. She was the strongest among us, a fighter to the end.Friends and family can visit McDougall & Brown at 2900 Kingston Rd. Visitation will be on Oct. 20, 9-10 a.m. followed by a service at 10 a.m. and burial at Pine Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family would appreciate donations go to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
