HASSELGREN, Katherine Mary
With deep sorrow we announce the passing of Katherine Mary Hasselgren, beloved daughter of Roy and Olga, on July 25, 2012 in Sidney, BC. Mary is survived by her partner of 25 years Donald Tillie, her mother Olga, sister Elizabeth, brother Allen and her nieces Alix and Patricia Drexel and Katherine Landry. She is predeceased by her father Roy and sister Alice. Born April 10, 1954 in Edmonton, Alberta, she graduated from Bonnie Doon CHS in 1971, and received a BA from University of Alberta, 1975. A 30 year employee of Canada Post in Edmonton and Sidney, she held many positions in the union locals of Edmonton and Victoria and worked in the national office of CUPW in Ottawa for several years. Mary loved to travel and managed to touch 5 continents. We will sorely miss her sense of humour, which she maintained till the very end of her life. She passed away after an all too brief struggle with cancer; we thank the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, where she spent her final weeks, for their high quality of care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the BC Lung Association, which assists sleep apnea and lung cancer sufferers. Family and friends are welcome to a celebration of Mary's life at 2286 Bradford Ave, Sidney, on Aug 25 from 1-5 PM.
