VICARI, Antonio (Prof.)
On July 30, 2012 in his 86th year, at the Dorothy Ley Hospice, peacefully surrounded by his family. Antonio died of a long illness stoically endured. He was born in Collegiove, Italy in 1926, educated in Rome and at the University of Toronto. He taught Spanish at York University for four years before joining the faculty at the University of Toronto, in the Italian Department, where he remained until his retirement. His lectures in Italian culture and film were especially appreciated by his many students, and he also had multiple avocations, such as music, gardening, cooking, travelling and various sports. He leaves his children Mark (Lynda Filip), Carla (Bryn Davies) and grandchildren Sophia, Elena and Wyatt, as well as his former wife Patricia, nephews and nieces in Italy - Luciano, Mimma and Nunziata. He was predeceased by his brother Paolo and sister Giuseppina. A visitation will be held at the Morley Bedford Funeral Home, 159 Eglinton Ave. West (2 lights west of Yonge St.) on Sunday, August 12 at 11 a.m. with a service to follow in the Bedford chapel at 12 p.m. Donations may be made in Antonio's memory to The Dorothy Ley Hospice, 220 Sherway Dr., Etobicoke, ON M9C 0A7 or to the Instituto di Cultura di Toronto, 496 Huron St., Toronto, ON M5R 2R3.
