DENOMMÉ, Dr Raymond
Dec 1, 1922 - Aug 3, 2012.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Dr. Raymond Louis Denommé on Friday August 3rd at the age of 89. Predeceased by his cherished wife of forty seven years, Helen (nee Fowler, 1995) He had the good fortune of spending his later years with much loved partner, Eileen Meretsky (2011).
He is lovingly and fondly remembered by his children Paul (Carroll Flewelling), Lisa Houston (Jim), Martha Ranson (Michael Robinette), Margot (Rob Warren) and Peter (Kimberlee).
His endless wit, his rare, genuine outlook on life and a desire to hug will live on through adoring grandchildren Christopher and Scott Ranson, Jamie and Bobby Houston and Madison and Brooke Warren.
He was also predeceased by his siblings Wilfred, Paul and Eileen; and survived by his brother Denis (Monica), and sisters-in law Betty and Leah Denommé and Joyce Fowler. In recent years, Dad lost a legion of lifelong and loving friends. He will always be remembered for his kindness, great sense of humour, his never-ending interest in people and things, his non-stop chatter and his ability to make just about anybody laugh.
Dad served as a flying officer in WWII, but his stories of the war focused primarily on the camaraderie and friendships that he developed, and he would say that he 'resisted the temptations of heroism'. After graduating from University of Toronto Dentistry, Dad practiced in Windsor until he retired in 1996. Dad was an Honorary Life member at Essex Golf and Country Club where he enjoyed many rounds with nicknamed friends and more than a few spirited games of gin rummy. He scored one hole-in-one while vacationing with his young family in Muskoka, but never lived down the error of telling the reporter from the local newspaper that he had used a driver on a par three.
The family owes special thanks to Phil and Sheila Meretsky, whose friendship and support meant so much to Dad and all of us. The family also wishes to thank his great friends in Windsor, Dr. Robert McKay and Marian Eichberger, Tom and Mary-Lou O'Brien, Barbara Dunn, Lori and Mike Labute, and Tami Theuma, who were always so helpful to Dad.
Cremation has already taken place. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday August 13th at 12 noon at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 1810 Queen Street East Toronto (east of Woodbine ) followed by a Celebration of Life at Scarboro Golf Club, 321 Scarborough Golf Club, (west of Markham Road, north of Kingston Road).
A private interment will be held in Windsor on Friday September 14th followed by a reception from 4-6 p.m. at the family home in Windsor.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dad's honour to the Canadian Diabetes Association or Salvation Army Canada.
