LEHMANN, Goldie Katherine (nee Margolis)
-
Goldie, beloved wife of the late Dr. Maurice (Mossy), died of lung cancer on July 24, 2012 in Winnipeg after a year's illness. Daughter of the late Harry and Sara Margolis, sister to Jay Berg of Montreal and predeceased by three brothers, Sam, Abe and Leonard. She was born in Vermilion, Alberta and spent a spirited childhood in Canwood, Saskatchewan. She was a beautiful soprano and performed often at the local Legion (singing Christmas carols) and on radio. She moved to Prince Albert for her last year of high school. She loved the learning atmosphere the nuns provided, graduating at the age of 15. Mom joined the army as a 17 year old, lying about her age. Upon discharge she attended McGill University, obtaining her BA. She married Mossy Lehmann on May 17, 1949. Together, they shared a life of work, volunteerism, world travel and a love for Mexico, opera, theatre and the symphony. She instilled many important values and lessons including those of compassion, tolerance, liberalism, community service, reading and the importance of lifelong learning. She is survived by her daughters Paula (Bill, deceased) Black, Ruth (Eric Ellis), Allie (Paul Bender); grandchildren Myth (Sherry) Siegers, Aviva Black (George Godfrey), Ana Blair (David), Britt and Marin Lehmann-Bender, Christina Siegers, Megan Ellis, Samantha Wilson and great grandchildren Erin and Aislin Blair, Zev Mossy Siegers and Dorian Siegers as well as numerous relatives in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Calgary, Toronto, Montreal, Denver, Lansing and Palm Springs. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to her wonderful caregivers, especially Emma, Nimfa and Arriane and to the WRHA Palliative Care Team. The funeral took place at Shaarey Zedek on July 25, 2012. Shiva is being observed at 73 Ethelbert Street with evening prayers commencing at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Goldie's honor to a charity of one's choice. May her memory be a blessing.
