MAXWELL, Barrie
It is with great sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our beloved husband, father, son, and brother, James Barrie Maxwell, most recently of Haliburton, Ontario. Wonderful husband of Sue, father to Terry and son of Anne Maxwell and the late Walter Maxwell of Toronto. He will also be deeply missed by his sister Anne, her husband Marcel, and their children Paige and Sam as well as extended family and friends in Ottawa, Haliburton, Toronto, Ireland and Farmington, Utah.Barrie was a loving and gentle man whose intelligence, creativity and devotion to loved ones were an inspiration to us all. He had a distinguished career with Environment Canada as a meteorologist and scientist focused on arctic permafrost and climate research. A lifelong lover of movies, he took early retirement to pursue his passion and he became a renowned reviewer of classic film. He and his beloved wife Sue together embraced life in Haliburton, Ontario where Barrie became the host of a radio show featuring songs from the Great American Songbook. Barrie was able to find joy in each and every day even during his brave battle with cancer, remaining positive until the end. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A memorial service and celebration of Barrie's life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto would be appreciated.
