Alastair Normand
Born in Scotland in 1922, passed away on Sunday July 1, 2012 at home, surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of Maggie, father to Jean (Gary Kotwa) and Jennifer (Fergus Wilmer) Granddad to Krista, Taylor, Morgan and Cameron, he will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. Alastair came to Canada in 1953 and worked as an engineer for BA, Gulf and then Petro Canada retiring in 1986. A keen sailor and life member at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, he was also a long time member of the St Andrew's Society, only missing the St Andrew's Ball twice in the last 50 years! Sailing his beloved ''Scotch Mist'', traveling, and flying radio controlled model airplanes kept him busy in retirement. He was an inspiration to his family especially his grand children and a dear friend to so many. Stoic, loving and a true gentleman to the end, while Canada Day fireworks rocketed into the sky he quietly slipped his mooring and sailed off to the next horizon. A celebration of his life will be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care. Thank you to Dr. Russell Goldman and his team for their wonderful care and support.
