BARBARA L. DEMARAY Barbara Louise Demaray of Somerville, New Jersey, died on July 23rd, 2011 at Somerset Medical Center. She was 90. Daughter of Howard H. Demaray and Idabelle Collings Demaray, she was a member of one of Somerville's eldest families, occupying the home on West Cliff Street, purchased by her grandfather, Lyman H. Demaray, in 1896. For most of her career, Ms. Demaray was a writer, creative director and vice president of Young & Rubicam, Inc, the international advertising agency. She served her company in its New York offices, as well as in Los Angeles, Copenhagen, Santo Domingo, Mexico City and Toronto. During a two-year leave of absence from Y&R, she joined the Children's Television Network as consultant and writer in the planning and introduction of SESAME STREET. She also designed windows, using her wonderfully fanciful creations, for Lord and Taylor's and for Tiffany's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York City. After retiring in Toronto in 1986, she continued doing consulting for a few years and eventually embraced full retirement. She maintained residences in Toronto and Somerville, enjoying spending time with friends and their families until finally returning to her family home in Somerville in 2004. Whatever city Barbara lived in during her long creative career, she reveled in the friendships she made along the way and loved what each place and its people added to her life. She touched many, many lives on her way and she will be treasured and remembered for the great, kind, generous and loving soul that she was, inspiring in all of us the thrill of the creative mind in all its explorations. She saw the world with a beautiful imagination and thus she will be remembered and kept alive. She was family to many, and many were hers. From where you are Barbara watch over all who loved you and keep sending us your brilliance. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. There are no immediate survivors. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 13 at 10:00 am at St. John's Episcopal Church, Somerville, NJ. Arrangements are under the direction of the Cusick Funeral Home. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Nature Conservancy or to a charity of your choice.
