Hugh Guthrie, Q.C.
(1931 - 2010)
Hugh Guthrie died peacefully at his cherished home in Guelph on June 28 after a brief illness. He was surrounded by his family, friends and faithful dogs. Beloved husband of the late Lorna (Knight) Guthrie (2006). He was a loving, kind father and friend to his daughters, Lorna Margaret (Jeff Brandmaier) and Patricia Ann (Michael Andrassy). Dear son of the late Hugh C. and Margaret Guthrie.
Dad graduated from Osgoode Law School and was called to the bar in 1956. He practiced law in Guelph under the banner of Hungerford, Guthrie & Berry for nearly 55 years, still negotiating deals until his final days. He was a past bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Solicitor for the County of Wellington and served on the board of directors of numerous public and private corporations and associations, such as Blount, Linamar, Homewood, St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, and the Ontario Hunter Jumper Association, to name only a few. Dad was deeply committed to his community, and for the last decade worked tirelessly for the Guelph Community Foundation.
Dad loved musical theatre, a good dinner party and the excitement of an election campaign. He will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, integrity and humour. Dad was a mentor to many and a gentleman to all.
