LAURA MARGARET PARKINSON It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing on December 10, 2010 of Laura, loving partner to Stephen Partington, dear sister and daughter, and devoted mother to her son Felix. She included all in the warmth of her presence and loved and helped many from countries around the world. Laura was born in Vancouver in 1956 to Ella (nee McWilliam) and Raymond Parkinson. She grew up in North Vancouver and was first recognized as an exceptional pupil at Handsworth Secondar y. Laura pursued learning voraciously, becoming fluent in Spanish, immersed in literature, reading law at UBC and Queen's, and practicing law with Baigent, Jackson and Blair. She served three terms as Vice Chair with the Labour Relations Board, and then practiced with Victory Square Law. Laura loved travel from an early age, seeing far flung parts of the world with her parents, sister Jennifer and brothers Colin and Graham. Laura eventually explored most continents, travelling widely with her son Felix and Stephen Partington. Her urge to explore included BC and all aspects of things wild, natural and botanical, which led to many adventurous outings with Nature BC (Vancouver Natural History Society). Laura contributed mightily to many organizations, including her cottage community on much loved Bowyer Island, in growing plants for Maplewood Flats and supporting charities such as Horn of Africa among others. Laura had a special relationship with the children of this world and deeply loved and was loved by her nieces Annika, Laila and Iman, as well as nephews Cameron and Neil. Laura achieved widely both in her career and in enjoying all that life offers. She was unique in so many ways that she will long live on in the fond memories of her family, many friends, colleagues and clients. A celebration of Laura's life will be held 2 pm - 5 pm, 18th of December, 2009 at Anne MacDonald Hall, 333 Chesterfield Avenue (Chesterfield and 3rd St.), North Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Laura's memory to Nature Vancouver - Camp Fund, PO Box 3021, Stn Main, Vancouver B.C., V6B 3X5.
