AZZOPARDI, Dr. Paul
Passed away peacefully in his 89th year, on November 5, 2009, at Scarborough General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Maureen. Cherished father of Peter and Sigrid, Mark and Elaine, and Kathy and Todd. Devoted grandfather of Keira, Paul John, Lauren, Erin, Scott, Spencer, Michael, Meaghan, Brendan and Jake. Dr. Paul will be missed by extended family members and friends. Paul was born in the west end of Toronto in 1921, the youngest of seven children of Peter and Helen Azzopardi. He served with Allied forces in Malta during WWII. Paul graduated in medicine in 1946, and completed his paediatric training in Great Britain. He returned to Canada in 1956 and served at the Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto East General Hospital, and for 50 years at the Scarborough General Hospital. During those years, thousands of children came under his loving care. He was esteemed by his colleagues as a superb clinician and set a wonderful example for all of us. The family will receive friends at the McEACHNIE FUNERAL HOME, 28 Old Kingston Road, Pickering Village (Ajax), 905-428-8488, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Sunday. Funeral Mass at St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church (corner of Bayly and Harwood in Ajax), on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Should family or friends so desire, donations to the Scarborough Hospital Foundation in support of Paediatric Care would be greatly appreciated.
