DONALD MICHAEL MCCARTHY (NOVEMBER 28, 1939 JULY 8, 2009) Passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, July 8, 2009. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife and best friend of thirty-nine years, Joan, and his children: Kelly & Rick Eng of Vancouver, and Kim & Ian Turgeon of Toronto. His three grandchildren, Kathleen, Maria, and Amanda, will miss the granddad they loved very much. Predeceased by parents James & Thressa, brother Ted, and sister Mary McCarthy Smith. Survived by brother, Jim (Carolyn), and sisters, Gwen Johnston, Pauline O'Hearn, Christine Wesley (Dennis), and Kate Loucks (Jim). He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Born in Peterborough, Ontario, his long career in banking took him and his family to Toronto, Edmonton, and finally to Vancouver, where he retired as a senior bank executive with Barclays Bank of Canada. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit, encyclopedic sports knowledge, mean card-playing skills, and corny dad jokes. He touched many lives and will forever be in our hearts. Visitation at Richmond Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 14 from 2-4 p.m. Prayer Service at 7 p.m. on July 14 at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 4451 Williams Rd. Richmond, BC, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15.
